Computation of the gradient-induced electric field noise in 12-lead ECG traces during rapid MRI sequences

چکیده
Background Successful physiological monitoring using a 12-lead ECG during MR imaging is essential for safe conduction of cardiovascular interventions within a MR scanner. However, ECG artifacts induced by magnetic field gradients severely affect the signal quality and fidelity. Previously, the gradient-induced artifacts were reduced by blocking ECG transmissions during all gradient ramps [1], which has been shown feasible while the method is not suitable for short-TR sequences. Automated removal of gradient-induced voltages from 12-lead ECG traces during high-gradient duty-cycle MRI sequences
Background During cardiac MR imaging (CMR), ECG traces (<10 mV) are highly distorted due to strong gradient-induced voltages (GIV). GIV reaches 1000-3000 mV in high gradient-duty-cycle [GDC = (Total Gradient Activity Time per cardiac cycle)/(Cardiac cycle time)] sequences, for ECG electrodes located farther from magnet’s iso-center. An approach which predicted and removed GIV overlaid on ECG tr...

Background We previously demonstrated rapid detection of acute ischemia inside MRI using a prototype MRI-conditional 12-lead ECG system [1] equipped with hardware to remove artifacts produced by the MRI gradients. We also synchronized [2] high-field (1.5-7T) scanners using triggers from 12-lead traces following Magneto-HydroDynamic voltage removal. A commercial 12-lead ECG system might allow pe...
متن کاملGradient-induced voltages on 12-lead ECGs during high-duty-cycle MRI sequences and a theoretically-based method to remove them
Background An MRI-compatible 12-lead ECG platform, equipped with MRI-gradient induced-voltage removal hardware and magneto-hydrodynamic voltage removal software [1], was previously applied to physiological monitoring and synchronization of cardiac imaging of patients inside MRI. This approach had limited success for highduty-cycle [(total Gradient-ramp-time per R-R)/(R-R time) >20%] MRI sequenc...
متن کاملECG Electrode Placements for Magnetohydrodynamic Voltage Suppression and improving Cardiac Gating in high-field MRI
Background The accuracy of Electrocardiogram (ECG) gating for synchronization of MR scanner image acquisition and cardiac electrical activity is of great importance for acquiring high-quality Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) images free of motion artefacts. The distortion of ECG traces by Magnetohydrodynamic Voltages (VMHD) induced by interaction between the MRI static magnetic field (B0) and r...
متن کاملCardiac MRI with concurrent physiological monitoring using MRI-compatible 12-lead ECG
Background High fidelity 12-lead ECG is important for physiological monitoring during cardiovascular interventions. A dominant ECG R-wave is essential for synchronizing cardiac MRI. Obtaining the real ECG in MRI is challenging due to a superimposed Magneto-Hydro-Dynamic (MHD) voltage (VMHD) [1], & strong induced voltages from MRI switched gradients. Detecting acute ischemia by ST segment [2] is...
